Far-Right Parties Make Gains

Early forecasts from the European Parliament elections on Sunday showed voters punishing ruling centrists and backing far-right parties.

In Italy, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's hard-right Brothers of Italy party has clinched about 27% of the vote, a fourfold increase over the last European election.

Center-Right Party Leads

The center-right European People's Party (EPP) is projected to remain the largest group in the European Parliament, but with fewer seats than in the previous election.

The Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group is expected to come in second, followed by the Renew Europe group, which includes French President Emmanuel Macron's party.

Conclusion

The rise of far-right parties in the European Parliament is a worrying trend. These parties often espouse anti-immigrant and Eurosceptic views, which could threaten the stability and unity of the European Union. It remains to be seen what impact these parties will have on EU policymaking in the coming years.
